Dobkowski Jan

A painter, graphic artist.
He was born in 1942 in Łomża. Between 1962-1968 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (a diploma with a vice-chancellor’s distinction in professor Jan Cybis’ atelier). In 1967 together with Jerzy Zieliński he organized an exhibition entitled Neo-Neo-Neo in Medic’s Club in Warsaw. He presented paintings in which there were only four colors – red, green, blue and yellow. In 1968 New York’s Guggenheim Museum purchased the painting entitled "Double Girl". It was the first green and red work of art of the artist. In 1972 he went to New York. Between 1980-1981 he created series of paintings and drawings: Eroticon, Hope and Darkness, Either-or, later appeared series: The Landscape of Space (1983), Threnodies (1984-1985), Genesis (1986-1988), The Ocean. In the 1990s he created next series: Sounds (1994), Simultaneous Paintings (1995-96), Rio Carnival (from 1997), Nocturnes (1998) as well as the watercolor series started in 1992 The Universum.
