Nowosielski Jerzy

A painter
He was born on the 7th of January 1923 in Cracow, died on the 21st of February 2011. In 1940 he started studying at Staatliche Kunstgewerbeschule Krakau with professor Stanisław Kamocki. Since 1945 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow with professor Eugeniusz Eibisch. In 1942 he to plumbed the mysteries of icon painting in Ławr near Lviv. In Cracow he was affiliated with the artists of the Cracow Group, at the end of the 1040s he worked as an assistant of Tadeusz Kantor at the College of Fine Arts in Cracow. In 1956 he represented Poland at XXVII Bienale in Venice. He was the professor of the art academies in Łódz and Cracow. In the second half of the 1950s Nowosielski’s style of painting formed, deep-rooted in the conventions of Middle Eastern painting and early Italian Renaissance, thanks to which the artist developed original form of presenting nudes, figurative scenes and landscape.
