Tarasin Jan

A painter, graphic designer, photographer and essayist

He was born on the 11th of September 1926 in Kalisz, died on the 8th of August 2009 in Warsaw. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracov under professor Zbigniew Pronaszko’s direction. As a student he made his debut during the First Exhibition of Modern Art in Cracov in 1948/49. In the middle of the 1950s he created series of lithographs: “Nowa Huta and its inhabitants”, 1954, „Home”, 1955. After 1956 he started painting non-figurative works of art. Since 1962 Tarasin was a member of “The Cracov Group”. Between 1963-67 he was a lecturer at the Department of Interior Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracov. In 1967 he moved to Warsaw , in 1974 he started working at the Department of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Between 1987-90 he was a vice-chancellor of this school.
